Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Van Bolden will be the officiant. Visitation will be held Friday, October 31, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Brown's Funeral Home Chapel, 1011 Rosa Street, Picayune, MS and Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church.  Interment will be in the New Palestine Cemetery.

Sylvester Leroy Stubbs Jr. was born on May 23, 1979, in Picayune, MS to Sylvester L. Stubbs Sr. and Martha Jackson Stubbs.

Sylvester accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.J. Woodard. He was a faithful servant as a member of the Junior Choir, Youth Department, and Drill Team.

Sylvester was a stellar athlete. He played several sports including baseball, football, and basketball. He was a proud member of the Picayune Maroon Tide football and basketball teams wearing #5. He was selected as a member of the Mississippi Association of Coaches North/South Basketball all-star team in 1998 and was awarded the Best Defensive Player of the game, leading the South team to victory. He was a graduate in the PMHS class of 1998. He also received a basketball scholarship to Pearl River Community College.

Sylvester, affectionately known as Fatman, was a skilled craftsman and successfully received his Masonry certification. He enjoyed working the grill at any family function, watching sports, working in the yard, and spending time with his family and friends.

Sylvester transitioned to his heavenly home on October 24, 2025.

Sylvester was preceded in death by his loving parents, Sylvester Stubbs Sr. and Martha Jackson Stubbs; sister, Laura Holloway; brother, Shun Stubbs; and brother-in-law, Danny Dantzler.

Sylvester leaves to cherish his memories, his only daughter, TeMaja Stubbs; sisters, Stacey Dantzler, Theresa Stubbs, Shira Stubbs, Brooklyn (Melquan) Cook, and Destiny Stubbs; brother, Chase Stubbs; aunts, Lucille Stubbs, Martha Smith, Minnie Bell, Dean Smith, Marie Coleman, Martha Nell Roseman, and Quincie Keyes; uncle, Hersey (Betty) Stubbs; brother in law, John Holloway; special aunts, Mary Frances (Arthur) Jackson, Beatrice Cousin, and Ida Simien; nieces and nephews, Jasmin, Jonathan, Allexius, Christopher, Dannielle, Danny, Makenzie, Jrue, Draya, Lavender, Koa, Lakota, and Janiya; and many cousins and friends, especially all members of the Goodyear community.
