Funeral services will be held at Kaycee Hall, 408 Carroll Street, Picayune, MS on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to service.

Joseph Hubert “Plug” DeCuir Sr., a longtime resident of Picayune, Mississippi, affectionately known these days as “Pops”— passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, in Plano, Texas, at the age of 74, surrounded by his loving family.

Joseph was born on June 21, 1951, in New Roads, Louisiana, to Oliver and Laura (Labry) DeCuir. On September 20, 1975, he married the love of his life, Lois DeCuir, beginning a beautiful union that spanned 50 years. From that marriage came their two sons, Joseph Jr. and Brandon, whom Joseph devoted his life to providing for and guiding with love.

A hardworking man, Joseph spent many years as a skilled brick mason, taking great pride in his work and in caring for his family. He embraced each day with gratitude and enthusiasm, living out the words of John 10:10: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” His joy, warmth, and genuine love for people will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know him.

Joseph truly never met a stranger—only friends he hadn’t talked to yet. Known for his love of good times and the people he shared them with, he believed life was meant to be celebrated, often from the comfort of his open garage door, where everyone was welcome to stop by and stay a while.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 50 years, Lois DeCuir; his sons, Joseph Jr. (Jessica) and Brandon (Chase) DeCuir; his beloved grandchildren, Jaelin and Jaxon DeCuir and his siblings: Edward (Katherine) DeCuir of New Iberia, LA; Celita (Johnny) Verdun of Patterson, LA; Maudrey Lavalais of Frisco, TX; Anthony (Jessie) DeCuir of Patterson, LA; Beverly DeCuir of Baton Rouge, LA; and Vanessa (Kenny) Valentine of Lake Placid, FL.; He is also survived by his godchildren, Danyell DeCuir Mahoney, Kenneth DeCuir, Brian Covington, Marcus Jackson, and Dennis Jones, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Laura DeCuir, and his siblings, Laura Mae Prevost, Eric DeCuir, James DeCuir, and Jennifer DeCuir Toussaint.
