“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1 KJV

Memorial service will be held Monday, June 22, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at First Cornerstone Baptist Church, 917 Cayden Street, Picayune, MS 39466. Bishop Vernon Robinson will officiate at the service. Internment will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Southeast LA Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Dr., Slidell, LA 70460.

Janet was born on June 12, 1953, in New Orleans, LA, to the late Rubie Jackson and Evelyn Christmas. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Curtis L. Alexander and brother, Robert Emery.

Janet attended Bayview Vocational Training in Northeast Maryland, where she earned her Certified Nursing Assistance certification in 1972.  Janet dedicated many years caring for others while working at Havre de Grace Hospita, Picayune Nursing Home, and Northshore Hospital.  Janet had a heart for helping people and treated everyone she met with kindness and compassion.

In 1972, Janet married Kem Briscoe, Sr., and together they welcomed three children; Ken Briscoe, Jr., Michelle Briscoe and Yolanda Briscoe.  Though their marriage later ended, Janet continued to build a beautiful life around family and love.   She later married Curtis Alexander, on October 28, 1985 and together they raised a blended family filled with love, laughter, and support.

Janet was a woman of wit and humor who enjoyed playing UNO, working crossword puzzles, coloring, and spending time with her family.  She especially loved Christmas and made sure every holiday season was magical for her grandchildren.  Above all else, Janet was devoted to her children and grandchildren.  She attended games, practices, tryouts, and special moments, always cheering them on as their biggest supporter.  Her grandchildren brought her endless joy and never missed an opportunity to show them love.

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, Janet accepted wings with God peacefully in Slidell, LA at the age of 72.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Kem Briscoe Jr., Michelle Briscoe, and Yolanda Briscoe; two brothers, Michael Jackson and James Emery; four sisters, Catherine Christmas-Hall, Wanda Emery, Mary Emery, and Rose Emery; four grandchildren, Nathaniel Briscoe, Malik Briscoe, Amanti Briscoe, and Kani Briscoe; a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends who will deeply miss her tender love.

Janet Alexander will always be remembered as a strong, loving woman whose unconditional love touched everyone around her.  Her family thank God for blessing their lives with such an amazing mother and grandmother.
