Elister “Pig” Harrell
“Do not grieve; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10
He was known by all as “Pig”, but was named Elister Harrell and born July 17, 1967, to the late Mr. Adolph and Mrs. Glady’s Harrell. On October 19, 2025, God’s Angel’s came and gave Elister his wings. He passed away at Forrest General Hospital, in Hattiesburg, MS at the age of 58.
Elister accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. E.H. Hart and joined New Hebron Baptist Church. Later in life he joined First Baptist Church in Picayune, MS. under the leadership of Rev. Tony Lambert.
Elister attended Pearl River Central school system in Carriere, MS. He was given the nickname “Pig” by his mother because he weighed over 10 lbs at birth. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and cookouts. He was also a lover of all types of music. He had a very outgoing personality and never met a stranger. To know him was to love him...because he was going to leave you with a laugh or a smile.
God saw a flower who needed to be picked. Elister is smiling down on us and saying, “don’t cry, I’m doing fine. I got my crown.”
Elister was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Gladys Harrell; two sisters, Charladan Hattie and Arnetta Walton.
Elister leaves to cherish his memories; two loving sisters, Arvilla (Tony) Zollicoffer and Willie Mae Woodson; brother, Ackin (Tina) Harrell; two special nieces, Lenora, September; godson, Money, to whom he was his PaPa; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be will dearly missed.
Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 401 Goodyear Blvd, Picayune, MS. Rev. Tony Lambert, Pastor and Officiant. Entrusted to Brown’s Funeral Home, www.brownsfuneralhomepicayune.com
