Andrew Sam “Iron Man” Wilson was a man of unwavering strength and skilled hands, whose legacy was forged through years of hard work, determination, and an enduring love for his family.
Sam was born on August 31, 1941, in Waynesboro, Mississippi, to the late Annie Wilson Jones and James Wilson. At a young age, Sam began working as a mechanic at G.V. Davis Auto Shop. On March 13, 1966, Sam entered holy matrimony with the love of his life, Flora Jene McDougle Wilson. The newlyweds relocated to Picayune, Mississippi for a fresh start. Side by side, they purchased and managed properties. Sam also served as the right-hand man for Fine & Fine Law Firm until his retirement. His love was often demonstrated through his actions: showing up, getting the job done, and making sure those he loved were cared for. Beyond his work, Sam appreciated the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed road trips, hunting, fishing, and, of course, a good meal.
On October 11, 2026, at the age of 85, Sam peacefully departed this earthly life at his home in Picayune, Mississippi. The hands that worked so diligently have now come to rest, but the legacy of the man known as “Iron Man” will continue through the generations that follow him.
Sam leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory his wife, Flora Wilson; children, Vincent Wilson, Glen Wilson (Sylvia), Brad Wilson (Sheena), Jamie Wilson, Latonzia Patterson (Jerry), Samantha S. Victor, Kwamane T. Wilson, and Jamara D. Wilson; grandchildren, Kwadeidra Z. Wilson, Jamie D. Wilson, Nolan R. Wilson, Brad J. Wilson, Na’Tonzia Patterson, Ny’Kasia Patterson, Ny’Tasia Patterson, Sa’Vion C. Victor, and Ahmad J. Victor, as well as his great-grandchildren, Kian D. Wilson, Kassi R. Wilson, and Kace L. Wilson; brother, Charles Wilson (Claresse); sisters, Mildred Mayfield (E.L.), Dorothy Wilson, and Ruby Turner (Horace). Each generation carries a piece of his story, ensuring that the strength, determination, and love of Andrew Sam “Iron Man” Wilson will not be forgotten.
Interment will follow at New St. Paul Cemetery, New St. Paul Church Road, off Tokio- Frost Bridge Road, in Waynesboro, MS 39367. Repast will follow in the Backwoods.
